Letter from PAWS Board President Richard Bockoff

I am thrilled and excited to serve as the new board chair at PAWS. Jane Hughes, our outgoing chair, left PAWS in a wonderful spot. PAWS is now positioned for enormous growth. We are expanding our outreach, impact and effectiveness. While guiding us through last year’s strategic plan Jane provided her leadership with a steady hand and clear vision of our mission. Thank you Jane for your years of dedication and commitment to PAWS. Thanks as well for agreeing to stay on the board and help guide our progress.

Last week my two nephews visited from Michigan. Aside from being brilliant and superb athletes they were two of the kindest, gentlest young men I have had the pleasure of spending time with. Jake (12) and Josh (9) took to our dogs immediately. They played and wrestled and settled down to rest together for two days. They personified the magic of the human-animal bond by treating our pets with respect and compassion. It was a wondrous thing to be around.

I get that very same pleasure being around PAWS. For the last 20 years PAWS has preserved that magical human-animal bond by assisting vulnerable adults remain independent longer and age with dignity, through the companionship and motivation provided by their pets. For 20 years PAWS has provided vet care assistance to pets who wouldn’t otherwise get their needed treatment. This year, our new PAWS Pantry program will be feeding hundreds of additional companion animals with pet food distributions at food banks, churches and community centers. PAWS Pantry will also be distributing thousands of additional pounds of pet food to shelters and rescues.

What a year we have to look forward to! Thank you Jane and all who served on last year’s board. Thanks as well to our dedicated, passionate staff. The big thanks of course is reserved for our volunteers and supporters. You are the ones that make all of this possible. We pledge to make you proud.
